‘Summer is Sam’ is a film about a storm, made up of footage I shot when I was 14, and retroactively edited two decades later. It follows a teenage odyssey between my two home countries - Switzerland and the Philippines - as I look to reconcile conflicting ideas of masculinity, following a medical procedure. Documenting my world at the time via my first camcorder, it looks to conserve the time waves, perceptions and humour of that period, as well as the transformative, and sometimes dangerous or volatile nature of puberty.
